Ellie
Covan
(Executive
Director and Curator, Mondo Cane!, Performance Works-in-Progress,
Community Literary Events) is the founder of Dixon Place. Her background,
education and experience are in the performing arts, which she has
been committed to since the year she spent on Romper Room at the
age of five. Ms. Covan directed and co-developed Nancy Giles' "Notes
of a Negro Neurotic" and "Black Comedy: The Wacky Side
of Racism," which have been performed at such venues as The
Public Theater, Naked Angels, the Westbank, Ensemble Studio Theatre,
Passage Theatre, Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning and Dixon
Place. In the summer of 1998, she produced Peggy Shaw's acclaimed
"Menopausal Gentleman" at the Ohio Theatre in NYC. Ms.
Covan has received two Obie Awards, in 1990 and in 1999, as well
as a 1989 "Bessie" - a New York Dance and Performance
Award - for her service to the NYC arts community.
