Dear Friends of Dixon Place,
This is my first Capital Campaign letter; it would mean so much to me if you could take a few minutes to read it. Here's the thing: WE'RE ALMOST THERE - the final phase of construction is underway!!! We're scheduled to move to Chrystie Street in just three short months!
As you know, Dixon Place focuses on the needs of artists, and fills those needs in myriad ways… In some cases, we actually plant the seed; and in all cases we provide water, manure and nurturing.
Whether it's providing Blue Man Group with their first artistic home or presenting Tom Spanbauer's first public reading, the service we provide has enormous value.
Early in her career, Reno performed her shows night after night at DP, continually challenging herself, totally committed to discovering what worked and what didn't - and all that time, Dixon Place was there for her.
And in Lisa Kron's own words:
"Dixon Place has been absolutely crucial to the development of my work
for over twenty years. I've done initial workshops at DP of every piece
I've made, including my play Well which went to Broadway in 2006. DP is
an unparalleled incubator for creativity -- There's no other place that
offers safety and freedom to work the way Dixon Place does."
We're proud to have been instrumental in helping artists find their voices, but behind it all was the support of the audiences. Both your valuable feedback at performances and the money you so generously donate to DP have been critical to the success of these artists. It's very important to me that you really believe this!
Five years ago we kicked off a capital campaign based on a vision and a lot of hope that we could create an unprecedented professional laboratory theater. Today I'm coming to you for support at the MOST crucial juncture in the life of Dixon Place. We have just three months of construction left to go… and we need $300,000 in order to meet our current cash flow needs.
You know I don't ask you for money very often. This really IS my first written campaign appeal. If you can donate as much as a $1,000 this one time, I promise not to send you another letter like this; if you donate $500, well, I might send you one more letter later in the year.
But whatever you can give right now will make a difference.
Two more things to think about:
For every dollar you donate, Dixon Place will receive matching funds from the LuEsther T. Mertz Charitable Trust!!!
And on top of that, DP has been officially approved as a
member of the Empire Zone. Through this program, individuals and corporations
who contribute $500 or more to the renovation of 161 Chrystie Street qualify
for a NY State Tax Credit equal to 25% of the amount of the contribution,
and that's above and beyond your usual charitable tax deductions! This credit
is a dollar for dollar offset against state tax liability. And of course,
contributions are also eligible for your Federal charitable deduction.
We really need your help right now. I know making a donation can sometimes
mean a personal sacrifice, but please know that in this instance…
your money is worth double its value, and
your support affects the work and growth of thousands of artists!
I can actually see the light at the end of our tunnel and I want you to share the spotlight with us. We're so close - please join us!
