Bodies in motion, redefining space, pushing
frontiers of movement, giving choreographers a
place to put work on its feet-- Dixon Place's Dance
Series challenge artists and audiences alike.
This dance series, begun in January
2002 by Sara Juli and Alexx Shilling, focuses on collaborative works using
mixed media as the core of its mission. Each choreographer must collaborate
with an artist of a genre, outside of dance, in order to be a part of this
series. Artists presented have included Ann Robideaux/Paula Plessas, Eileen
Schwartz, Arianne Anthony, Toni Melass and Lily Gene Baldwin, Joshua Bisset/SHUA
Dance Group, Ali Kenner, Anime Dance Theater, Hana van der Kolk, Bennett

This series features work by 3-4 choreographers
on the last Tuesday of each month. Curator Marcia Monroe mixes different
forms of expression and promotes artists taking risks within their own art
form. The boundaries crossed may be national, with dance artists from South
America, Denmark, Germany, Israel, Japan and the U.S.; or within disciplines,
as "legitimate" artists travel "downtown" for the first time. Several groups
have traveled from Brazil, sponsored by the Brazilian government, to participate
in this series, including Regina Miranda Actors & Dancers Company and the
Sandro Borelli Group. Other artists include Frances Alekinoff, Monica Bill
Barnes, Maria Hassabi, Amos Pinhasi, Francisco Rider, Johannes Wieland,

This series provides an opportunity
for choreographers who are either beginning or evolving in their careers.
Once every other month, four new works are shown in development from choreographers

which demand more "finished" visions. Recent artists and groups presented
through this series include Karen Bernard, Lise Brenner, Cynthia Bueschel,
Clare Byrne, Susan Cline-Lucey, Olase Freeman, Aviva Geismar, Incidents
Physical Theater, Amy Kail, Fernando Maneca, Jill Sigman and Christine Suarez.

2004 and was held at University Settlement.
In 2008, choreographers Laura Peterson and Jack Ferver took
