Intern at Dixon Place!

Join our team!
We have three internship positions available that provide hands-on experience working with staff members and artists in various environments. The three positions consist of administrative, artistic, and technical internships. Technical theatre experience is helpful, but we are able to train. The most important qualifications are a willingness to learn, good written and oral communication skills, a somewhat flexible schedule, and the ability to make a commitment for at least 3 months. Please think this position through seriously and consider the time commitment. If you are enrolled in school, you may be able to get school credit for this internship.

We have three sessions a year for interning – winter (January – May), summer (May – August), and fall (August – December) . There is a possibility of extending the internship longer if you are interested. Our staff provides a friendly and communicative environment that is a good place to learn new skills, and then apply them to diverse situations. Our interns carry significant responsibility, and after training will represent Dixon Place while working.

Technical: After training, interns will run and potentially design shows independently. Hours vary from week to week, but are generally in the afternoons and evenings, and will include some daytime office assisting during slow weeks, totaling approximately 40 hours a week. Responsibilities include communicating with artists to understand their technical needs, scheduling rehearsal and tech time, learning technical capabilities of various venues, and running lights and sound for shows.

Administrative: Responsibilities include distribution of promotional materials, database maintenance, filing, communicating with artists and venues, assisting with press and marketing, and working the box office. Hours are generally 10-6, with some evenings, totaling 40 hours a week. Knowledge of MS Word, MS Outlook and internet navigating required.

Artistic: Working with the executive director and artistic associate, the artistic intern assists in reviewing submissions, corresponding with artists and venues, and occasionally running the box office. Artistic interns also have the opportunity to work with commissioned artists, assisting them in the rehearsal process and production. The schedule is variable, split between day and evening hours, averaging 10-20 hours a week. There is no stipend for this internship.
